such is my life. everyone now and then, windows reminds me how crappy it is. why cant it just display a window in a background that says 'hah! im a crappy os and you gotta deal with me cuase youre too lazy to learn linux!' one of these days . . . too the moon! so instead i get your usual warning. it doesnt do anything other than nag you in the back of your head *ies gonna crash any second now, i just know it. gotta save every few seconds.* such is my life. *sigh*

happy birthday lonewolf!

im really drained today so no rant. instead, heres what ive updated. you can see my scheduale for the fall 2001 semester here, a new wallpaper (porcelain) here (its also on page four of the wallpaper section), ive reworked the graphics section so that the individual graphics are easier to navigate, and ive updated the info page. enjoy! see you in the wall street journal.

so instead of a subject that leads into my rant, im placing songs that are running on winamp. so what can i tell ya about this one? well, its electronica, and it really really nice for rainy days. this ones from the gatecrasher global sound system/latitude cd. other good rainy day music would have to be aphex twin - on and hybrid - beachcoma. and i would be enjoying all of that if my damn computer wouldnt keep shutting off. nothing wrong with the power cable, its those power surges. yeah i know i should turn it off, but i gotta finish my work before the morning. so far its gone down three times. and the last one was a split nanosecond before i hit the save button. as homer would say, *doh!*.

ahhh sweet delicious overpriced starbucks frappuccino. three cheers for capitalism. hip hip hoooray! hip hip hoooray! hip hip hoooray!

in other news, im learning how to drive. and im quite good. course, ive been going about ten mph while driving, but hey! its a start. today we worked on s curves (which where fun) parallel/straight/angled. parallel went well, but i had a space the size of a two cars to work with, but oh well. tip: check to see which gear your in before hitting the gas. happened only once to me. another tip: some cars are much more responsive than others, therefore, proceed with cuation when backing out. all in all i think im on my way to becoming a competent motor vehiclest. my dream car? money being no object . . . either mclaren f1 gtr or aston martin vanquish. money being a problem . . . bmw 750il . . . whaaat? its sorta resonable for an Ærospace engineer.

go see andoruss webpage at http://andorus17.tripod.com/index4.html cuase shes a great artist and web-designer. new updates (to my site) is the addition of transmissions on page four of the graphics section.

and still going strong. in case you guys havent noticed, the graphics section is nearly complete (save the yearbook material) and ive added four new wallpapers for your viewing pleasure. go check them out in page 4 of the graphic design section. the newest three (flame on . . .) is available for site design. meaning, whoever wants a site based on the wallpaper, just e-mail me and ill be more than happy to make a template for you.

has anyone been keeping with the weather (thanks rabab for the spelling tip)? i think it was last thursday or so (recentley i know that) that i looked at the national forecast map and saw that everything was colored orange or the like. temperatures everywhere were high and nowhere was it raining (or so it seemed). nontheless, what the hell is going on? global warming? . . . perhaps. blue in cartridge at printers out? . . . possibly. whatever the case may be, the weather here in the middle of nowhere (does anyone here watch courage the cowardly dog on cartoon network? my middle of nowheres sorta like the setting in the cartoon) has been very very dry. two weeks and no rain. the grass is dying and its do damn hot outside to do anything. but suddenly (right now) were hit with a huuuge thunderstorm. its a crazy world i tell ya.

finished the sprawl trilogy today. superb writing by william gibson. im in the mood for some shadowrunning, but alas, no one here in the middle of nowhere knows what im taling about now do they?

on a related note, assonance rules!

and im off to bed, to be sung to sleep by the gentle showers. hopefully no more weird dreams (last nights was about dead bugs, cheez - its, and other weird weird things.) sayonara.

late night with phutro

oh my. what could these three things have in common? nothing. i just needed a title. so i log onto hotmail and go *whoa!* they revamped the service and now it looks spifier. clicking on random links and whatnot i arrive at the miss manners site. now here i am looking for sound advice and i stumble across and article named 'champagne tickles my toes'. turns out to be an article about people taking off their shoes. and then miss manners goes and disses my subcontinent-asian culture. have a read: (the full articles here) 'besides, she suspects them of being the very same people who demand that their guests remove their shoes before crossing their thresholds. having perfected their floors and rugs into an unwalkable state, they feel obliged to contrast this peculiar form of housekeeping with disgusting descriptions of what it is beyond their doors that their guests are bringing along. some hope to pass themselves off as japanese, rather than inhospitable westerners, overlooking the fact that it is not a japanese custom to insult and bully ones guests.' now shes hasnt targeted us specifically, but i feel bitching about something today. so who the hell does she think she is anyway? removing ones shoes is an old custom for us. why do we specifically do it? well it keeps the house clean. who knows what shit and dirt your guests walked through? you want that in your house? came across another manners article about e-mail. it included a listing of abbreviations that one can use. among the list was rtfm. and by it was the translation, read the funny manual. funny? now where i come from (and its not freakin iowa jeff!!) its fu*&ing manual. so just to set her straight.

oysters. more specifically blue oyster cult - dont fear the reaper. go give it a listen.

even though the real world uses a formula to cast it, and the basis and plot are the same, and just about every season too, i cant stop watching it. that and shows like jerry springer. i derive pleasure from watching them and comparing their screwed up complicated lives to my own normal one. sounds sorta twisted to me.

manners, oysters, and the real world

going to rule the world one day, and i want to be one of their groupies. yes indeed. a few more years and square will have the technology and skills to create their own politicians and what-not. knock off a head leader of a country, replace him with a cg creation, give him some sort of skin condition that doesnt allow him in the light (its the disease that christopher snow has in dean koontz - seize the night/fear nothing), and there you have it. if you havent seen it yet, please do. its definitley worth your ten-six-or however much you pay. and dont listen to the critics. why they said that ff had a thin plot? thin? you call that plot thin? maybe in comparison with the games (but hey, those take numerous hours to get through) but the plot is fine if not wonderful. and it keeps true with every ff plot so far. SO GO AND SEE IT! its so good, i used capitals for once. its that damn good. about the cg, so lifelike. square did motion capture on everything but the lips and mouth, those had to be animated. and each hair was placed in individually into the head. expression were amazing if not wholly convincing. the only thing that they need to work on, i think, are the mouths. on a side note, i found the general guy to be seifer from ff8. on the topic of ff games, ive only played seven through nine and id have to rank them seven, nine, and eight (eight being the worst of the three). eight took too much effort to manage. those damn pokemon like gf. god they were sooo annoying. nines the easiest to manage i think and seven has the most awesome and twisted plots, and of course one of the most bad-ass baddies sephiroth.

no external links or spelling corrections in this one. deal with it.

alien ant farm - smooth criminal, go and here it. along with david gray and . . . gorillaz.

what is it with these 'bloggers'? why do we have a sort of journal on the net that anyone can access? most of it will be relevant to those who are close to us anyhow. is it for their benefit? have i been reading too much thomas harris in that i am know trying to have that piercing and brilliant mind that dr. lecter has? or do i like seeing my words on the screen in verdana size one color white? thanks to downtym for making me a blogger. go see his ramblings over at http://theforge.resnet.gatech.edu/updates.html. so much to work on, so little time to do it all in. make sure you check out the wallpapers section by the way. its all done and now includes the offical theforge wallpaper.

one last thing before i log off. those of you who are reading this, please send an e-mail to me. i feel secluded and seperated from the outside world here, what with dial up, constant lagging, and a wal-mart as our shopping center. cant wait to get back to atlanta so i can see the big city lights, and sights, and then bury my nose in Æ. sometimes i envy my cs buddies. not that i think its easy. but most of the ones i know, are smart enough to take a few classes, so that they can concentrate on doing a good job (or as is the most prelevant case, more time to play evercrack and shadowrun). which i do plan on doing, shadowrunning that is. my guys packing dual smartlinked ii ares predators with recoil comp, and all sorts of gadgetry, along with a mutltipurpose steyr aug, some nades, grapple line, max-browning roomsweeper, shock gloves, katana, and some other stuff. course the only time i got to use those was when i had to shoot a window open so that i can jump five stories to the bushes (hopefully) while being chased by lone-star cops. we did a hella lotta running. the only firefight i belive we got into was when . . . oh yes! when the stupid troll (whos now dead due to his lack of intelligence) opened fire in a bar with his ak, hosing down not only the baddies, but almost taking us along with it. i was stuck between him and a hard place (that hard place being a pair of snipers). goodnyte folks.

what i was going to write about. i had it all planned out. and *poof* there it goes. curses! . . . wait . . . some of its coming back to me. ah!

christopher walken. i like his creepy acting style. he made an excellent headless horsemen in sleepy hollow and he did a bang of a job as max shreck in batman returns. but he hasnt had the chance to show his true acting skills yet. give him the right role, and he win an oscar for sure, i mean cmon, you gotta love the guy. take for example the fatboy slim video - weapon of choice. he sure knows how to bust a groove. entertaining indeed it is. but it raises the question, is christopher walken hard up for cash? or is this another side of him? perhaps hes trying to break out of his typecast. whatever the case may be, im behind you all the way christopher! you can do it!

i forgot

fallen asleep during the last entry. so here we go. kudos to paul okenfold on producing the swordfish soundtrack. i havent seen the movie, but the cd is a definite buy. the style really fits the overall theme of the movie. finished reading a number of books. stone of tears by terry goodkind, excellent, count zero and the difference engine by william gibson, both excellent, the hyperion series by dan simmons, excellent, and shadow of the hegemon by orson scott card, okay. it was lacking the oomph that enders game and enders shadow had. the story was shorter than i would have hoped for too.

mice are a nuisance. they scurry around in the walls late at night, go to the bathroom wherever they please, and eat and contaminate food, utensils, etc . . . mousetraps are a must, bait with peanut butter, set, and wait. and then dispose. thatll teach em to live in my house.

theres nothing like escaping iowa and heading down to chicago for the weekend. grand architecture, nice lake, great fireworks, and desis galore. its so refreshing to walk down devon street amidst people of the same culture. listen to other people talk in our native language, eat food that reminds us of home, and participate in haggling.

kudos to

arent working anymore. my sleep pattern has been way off for the past week or so. so i spend the nights either doing nothing, drawing, or digging for treasure in chocobos forest. ive spent numerous hours hammering on the buttons training my chocobos beak. but im only at 16.

we just moved into a new house so my dial-ups been revoked for awhile. sure its slow and annoying, but hey! at least i can check my mail, sometimes. i cant play c-strike without getting a connection problem or cl_flush packet entry thing. oh well, so is life.

sheep

the pig gir, quote from invader zim. fantastic cartoon.

in other news, netscape is really ticking me off. why you ask? ill tell you why. netscape is extremely anal about its tabels. the navigation table i have on the side works well in ie but netscape shrinks the cell size down so that the cell only fits the text. so, instead of seeing the background picture fully, it displays part of the background and the rest is all gray space. so fellow ie users, assist me in vanquishing netscape from this planet, down to the deepest darkest linux boxes.

lately ive been listening to the gatecrashers cd, global sound system and im starting to like the repetitiveness of some of the songs. perhaps the extreme looping allows for my mind to devote less energy towards processing the sound, letting me concentrate on other tasks. good background music.

time to pray. im out.

to each other. if "bill and teds excellent journey" has taught me anything, its to be excellent to my fellow people. sure the movies goofy and stupid. but its very entertaining. thats all that matters.

did some major work on the site. made it more user friendly and finished the information page. enjoy.

for some reason, ie doesnt automatically update the pages for me anymore. so whenever i go somewhere, the news is already old. example, i go to downtyms site to see that it hasnt been updated since the 15th, then i hit reload, and see that hes starting a hosting service.

a shout out to the class of 2001! esp my sister who will now be attending university of iowa going into pre-med. good luck to you all. some advice: dont procrastinate, dont always eat the cafeteria food, have fun, sleep in once in a blue-moon

in other news, its been darn cold here for the past week. temperatures dropping as low as sixty five. also its been raining about every day, with occasional bouts of hail.

hmmm . . . thats about it. its slow and dull here in iowa. not much to report, or do. so until next, party on dudes.

be excellent

heels together and say 'theres no place like tech'. yes folks, i miss school. i rather be sitting in a hot classroom right listening to my professor drawl on about the second law of thermodynamics than be here. but where is here . . . well, get out a map and find the place they call iowa. i dont know where it is, somewhere in the midwest i think. im not very keen on geography. its so dull here! its like reaching the end of the world in tribes, and being able to ctrl + k. yes . . . its that boring. i am surrounded by flat lands, grass, soybeans, and corn. 'woo-hoo'. as if thats not bad enough, the mall sucks, the music store doesnt carry any good techno, the bookstore has never heard of william gibson, and im on dial up for goodness sake! but despite all its shortcomings, its nice not to wake up early, its nice not to have to launder your own clothes, its nice to eat home-cooked meals, and its just darn nice to be with family.

heres my current schedule. wake up around noon, eat brunch in front of the tv for about an hour, shower, sit in front of the computer/playstation/tv till about evening. then i eat for another hour, sit in front of the computer/playstation/tv till about midnight, get a snack, read until three, and repeat. by the time breaks over, i should have read every book i have twice over, beaten every game i own four times, made about ten web pages and fifty pieces of work, and gained about twenty pounds. but that all depends on whether i have the determination to stick to the shcedule. i might even decide to hibernate.

so its been about three weeks since my last post. ill tell ya, finals were so damn annoying. i had two on monday and two on tuesday. the hardest one was . . . ummm . . . jeez, i cant even remember what finals i took, hardest one was differential equations. those laplace transforms are messed up! everything else was either easy or ok. i understood everything up till laplace. then i was like, huh? i had no clue what they were even used for. or how to solve them. its all like when you wake up in the morning and reflect back to your dream and wonder, did that really happen? the most annoying was the dynamics test. let me tell you future Æs of georgia tech. stay away from hanagude. do you remember indiana jones and the temple of doom? remember the main indian bad guy who took out the hearts? well, im ninety-nine percent positive that hanagude is that same bad guy. hes so damn evil! he doesnt return homework, doesnt disclose his grading policy, and hes a horrible teacher. his final was four pages of questions dealing with satellites rotating in ten different directions, looping around a hoop, while under the influence of alcohol. do you have any clue how impossible that is to solve? and then when you think you got the right answer, you forget to include the earths rotation about the sun, go figure.

so after finals, i had the rest of the week to chill. i packed, honed my c-strike skills, (got a new favorite gun, scout), read a bunch, and watched everyone else cram for their morning exams. the highlight of that week, watching downtym empty the trash. so the school sets out huge long dumpsters in the back of the dorm. so -tym goes to heave the trash up over the top and into the bin. he tells me to stand back, and as he goes to throw it, i realize, that bags never gonna make it. next thing i know, the bag rips, -tym goes ahhh sh&^#%@t, and following newtonian physics, the bags proceeds on a path that is tangent to the arc that the bag was originally on, goes splat against the bin, and sends trash flying everywhere. i laugh heartily for a good five minutes while -tym cleans up after himself. no that might no seem funny to you, but keep in mind folks, that i attend tech, and stay about an hour a day outside. the rest is divided up between classes, c-strike, eating, and sleeping.

before i continue this rather long entry, i would like to thank downtym for graciously hosting my site while im away in the middle of nowhere. much obliged.

i better call it a day. pretty late. ill continue this tomorow, which you guys wont see though till saturday, cause thats when the ftp is up. in the meantime, occupy yourselves with this: safeplaces

you to go and see "a funny thing happened on the way to the forum" that is being presented by drama tech. really really good and funny. sorry for all you readers who dont go to tech. in that case, just rent the movie.

two weeks till school is over! and then begins the endless summer. plans . . . practice my form . . . learn php . . . finish shakespeare . . . and . . . save the world perhaps (if i have time left over). me and three of my friends got an apartment in eigth street east, room 218. come by and give a holler. classes so far look horrid. heres a rundown, elementary japanese i, circuits and electronics, experimental fluid dynamics, intro to structural analysis, structures laboratory, thermodynamics and composite flow, vibrations and system dynamics. fun eh?

what else . . . what else . . . ah hah! a&w cream soda is the best! thats it for now. time to go to sleep so that i can wake up extra early and get started on homework! *someone remind me why i came to tech* also let me make it clear now, i dont use capitals or commas. sarcastic remarks are presented in 'this' titles are in "these" and *thoughts have stars on the sides*.

i urge

knives. theyre really really sharp. if you have to handle one, be sure you have a firm grip so you dont cut yourself.

in other news, georgia tech has been attacked by math professors. for those of you who cant make the connection (no matter how impossible it seems), its spring and nature is running amok. i awoke today to find everything covered in this yellow dusty film. pollen. lots of it. everywhere i look, yellow. the cars, trees, benches, squirrels. the weathers warm, and the acs on. what more could i ask for? the end of school perhaps? only four more weeks left.

the bsa website is coming along nicely. now i just have to transfer the old pages and reformat them. wheee. learning php in the process. nifty stuff.

one last note for tonight, be sure to check out daft punks new album discovery. pretty funky beats. sounds like disco for the new millennium.

be wary of

that benjamin franklin proposed daylight saving time? because of ben here we lose an hour of sleep every first sunday of april. nevermind that we gain an hour later on, the key word here is lose.

lan party here at tech on friday. ive been brushing up on my counter-strike skillz. few of my dorm buddies are also going. i plan on playing till about four in the morning. for those of you who dont know what a lan party is, its where a bunch of us geeks get together, play videogames, eat pizza, and drink coke till the crack of dawn.
04.05.2001 gmt -06.00

did you know

need i say more? went twenty nine and ten in dust and fourteen and five in militia. greatest moments . . . camping in the vent in back alley and wasting five cts with a mac 10, i came out to cap the last two, getting three headshots in a row with the fn p90, and being shot at while reloading, then switching to dual beretta elites and blasting him away. ahh . . . i feel refreshed.

this week hasnt been that bad when i look back at it. my grandfather got better, i aced my tests, watched cowboy bebop and just plain feel good.

about cowboy bebop. its just plain fantastic. superhero like. the animation, plot and especially the music are some of the best i have ever seen. yoko kanno did an amzaing job with the music. some of the songs seem straight out of macross plus, not thats its a bad thing.
03.27.2001 gmt -06.00

counterstrike rules

sucks. i have a tonne of tests and homework due, and on top of that i found out that my grandfather is ill. i cant wait till the weekend when i can stay under my covers till evening. but until then, im going to have to survive.

but not everything is bad news. i got two of my wallpapers posted up on natalieportman.com. also, its only one thirty now and i have an easy diff eq test later today. what else, what else, what else, ah! i was walking through the math department here at tech reading the posts, yes math professors do post good things on the walls, when i came across a paper called maybe next time. it hit me with the force of the ge90-115b engines on the boeing lr 777-300. yeah, im a geek, so what. go read the article and feel good.
03.27.2001 gmt -06.00

my god this week

since my last post. apparently, whatever creative vein i struck closed immediately. so far im in the process of revamping the organization of the old site. gonna take a bit longer since i have four tests next week and the bsa webpage to work on also.

spring is here! but not the weather. its been warm on and off. there was a really bad day when it was raining hard and was super windy. btw please excuse my grammar, i know it worse than usual, its four am and im wired so there. i want to sleep sooo badly, but i have a darn test tomorrow morning.

i hate tests. more so i hate Ærospace. next semester im taking four Æ classes, 3 Æ labs, and japanese. my stomach churns at the mere thought, or maybe thats the caffeine.

daft punks new album discovery is really good. kinda sounds disco-esque. other than that ive been in a fantasy mood. been listening to a lot of loreena mckennitt and nobuo uematsu. havent watched any new anime yet. ive been meaning to finish up slayers and cowboy bebop but havent found the time. im waiting for more episodes of vandread and dual to come out. both are excellent anime.

caffeine. what would i ever do without it? sleep? get work done? the world may never know.
03.23.2001 gmt -06.00

fifteen days

hah! i seem to have hit a creative vein in my head this week cause ive been very busy. i just finished making version three point zero of "powered by phutro" and it looks great, at least i think so. but now that the initial framework is complete, i can begin to move the rest of my old site over to here.

for spring break i flew back home to iowa, no i dont live there by choice. all i can say is brrr . . . its so darn cold. that and the computers in the basement. but being home is nice. i get to stay up late reading, not having to worry about classes (though ive had a few nightmares where i missed weeks of class), i get to enjoy fine cusine, and did i mention that i have my own clean bathroom. but alas, i have to be back by sunday night to finish off a project due the next morning. a pox on maple.
03.08.2001 gmt -06.00

hoo

what i mean? one week without any news. some mornings id wake up and debate with myself whether to go to classes or not. i hate morning classes. i had a really tough test yesterday in mse 2001 which im sure i bombed. and i havent slept in two days. but im all refreshed now. i slept for fifteen hours straight. and was promptly woken up by a fire alarm. turns out that they were just 'testing' it. i only have to survive four more days of this till spring break! no crazy trips for me out to some beach resort. im heading back to the farm for some rest and relaxation. plans . . sleep and work on designing webpages.

i know i had something to put here but for the life of me i cant remember what. maybe later.
02.27.2001 gmt -06.00

see

every day is so hard. i have to think about what to write and spell check it. in tÆ kwan doe we were doing cool spinny jumpy hooky matrixy things. they look really cool, even if you cant do them right. i have a promotion test coming up next week. if i do well enough ill get a double promotion.

my roomies still sleeping. hell sleep through anything even juno reactor - samura01. which is an awesome song with a fantastic bass line.

we had a test in eas 1601 today. easy easy easy. but it was too darn long. turn the page, answer the question . . . turn the page, answer the question . . . it never ended! an eighty to a hundred is an a. and you get bonus points and easy homework.

time to take a shower and read a nice book. no homework tonight! but therell be plenty tomorow.
02.20.2001 gmt -06.00

writing an entry

that colleges get screwed over when it comes to vacations? todays supposed to be presidents day. a day when we look back upon the leaders of our nation and admire them for their acomplishments, a day when we thank our presidents for getting us out of school. but alas . . . i had to drag my butt out of bed bright and early at eight to go to class.

ovens are nice. they warm your food without drying it out or making it soggy. i had some twenty seven dollar steak and twenty three dollar salmon. expensive food tastes sooo good. the only thing i could never figure out . . . why do you need so much silverware? one fork works for me. why three? why two different sized spoons? arent spoons all the same? and why dont they have silver sporks?
02.19.2001 gmt -06.00

why is it

steaks are really good. my family came to visit me during the weekend. i had two choices, study for a test or stay with them at the westin. hmmm . . . tough choice. got a cool snap of the sunsets reflection in the buildings windows. we went to the cnn center (did you know that it used to be an amusement park for h.r. puffinstuff?) and ate at the polaris (great food).

hotel beds are so much more comfortable than the ones in our dorms. ours . . . made of one old mattress on springs lifted high above the grounds. theirs . . made of full size mattresses on a nice box spring with nice pillows, blankets, room service and a view to go along with it. drawback . . westins too expensive for me to commute every morning to school.
02.18.2001 gmt -06.00

twenty seven dollar

on. watched it for the third time yesterday. movies are so much more enjoyable when watched with friends. this past week has been a disapointment for movies . . . "saving silverman"? no! "head over heals" . . . no! the only movies that were worth my money was "hannibal" and "crouching tiger hidden dragon". though i felt that "hannibal" was dumbed down relative to "silence of the lambs", in order to mass market it.

bring it

do you know where your brain is? mine apparently is somewhere in never-land right now. today started out as a good day. woke up at seven. nice cool breezy whether outside. lab was rather interesting also. i never knew compasses could run for two hundred and fifty dollars. lunch was delicious. no homework assigned. all went well. till i heard news that my family back in bangladesh was robbed. sucks big time. its amazing how corrupted some societies can become.

on a lighter note, i had a great run on counterstrike. finished twenty two and eleven. most memorable moment. held against wall i took a grenade taking me down to fifty health and then popped four cts and they come rushing in with my trusty sig. made it out with two health, hid behind a crate, and did the dance of joy

and just before i forget, i have a test in six hours that i need to study for. hurrah. my life is sooo complete.

its two am

sandwiches were all that i had for dinner. yummy. the alternative would have been to trudge on down to britain. give me canned goods any day! goodness that place is horrible.

my gimpy leg worked today. i pulled a muscle in my right leg on monday. its always been giving me problems. i thought id have a semester where i can go to all of my karate classes without having to worry about it. but . . bam! there it goes. *sigh* i wonder how much prosthetics cost.

goodness would you look at the time (one twenty seven am). ive got a date with an eas 1601 lab bright and early at eight. honsetly, who schedules a lab for eight in the morning. its just not right.
